Fuck's sake! I have my 360 back for less than a week, and my damn AV cable breaks! If it's not one thing it's another. Luckily, I should be able to replace it for about $30. Think I'll get a different brand this time. According to the reviews I've read, the Microsoft brand cables are rather shoddy. I've read good things about Rocketfish.

'Kay, time to knockout some math homework before class. Later.

DEAR SWEET BLOODY HELL. SHIT HAS HAPPENED LATELY.

First off, my 360 died yet again. Same E 74 error, this time while playing FVII: Advent Children. The last few times were with Lost Odyssey...I'm beginning to think my console hates anything JRPG-related. This happened months ago, and it took me three calls to Target over two months just to get a shipping label to send it in. My god. At least I'll get it sent in tomorrow, then it's out of my hands for a while. I really need to save up for an Elite in the future.

Also, my Chrysler Cirrus crippled itself. That was quite fun. On top of the shoddy transmission that only shifted in response to sorcery and overcame all attempts at repair, the gas pedal decided to just give up and die one day in the middle of an intersection downtown. I managed to coax it back home with what little patience I could muster for that jalopy. Obviously, it was time for a new car. There was much scouting and haggling over the course of two weeks or so, but I finally found something suitable: a 2003 Toyota Corrola. UPGRADE! It's been quite good to me since, good enough for me to accept that I'll be shelling out $190 a month for it for the next four years. But, fuck yeah, 31 average MPG!

THEN, Rhane's hard drive kinda crapped out. Specifically, Windows XP somehow offed itself. I still don't know. There was a lot of panicking and flailing about on my part, but eventually, with some help, I managed to reload XP and find all my files again. Granted, my computer now has two copies of XP running, and is missing some drivers, so it's thoroughly retarded. Still, I was able to save a lot of stuff. the DVD burner is all quirky and I lost my burning programs, so backing up my music is hit-and-miss. Luckily, I found a bunch of old DVDs containing lots of music, so I just have the new stuff to worry about now.

So, I'd known for a while that Rhane was on her way out, what with the out-dated processor, RAM and OS...so I decided to upgrade while I was at it. I'm currently typing up this post through Yuki, my HP desktop running a quad processor, 750gig HD, 8gigs of RAM, and Windows 7. All quite nice so far. AND IT'S SO QUIET TOO! Nothing like the ominous growl of Rhane.

Obviously, a new semester has started at MJC, and that's going fine. Just taking one class, Math 90, so I don't mess up my work hours and still have my free time. I've found that I like/appreciate math a lot more now than I did back in high school. I feel like I'm decoding the universe on a very, very, very basic level. Kinda nice.

Despite my electronic and automotive obstacles, things have been going pretty well. Besides, my birthday is in 2 minutes, so I can't really complain. Okay, time to catch up on webcomics. Later.

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

An accomplished diplomat who can virtually do no wrong, you sometimes know it is best to rely on the council of others while holding the reins.

There are some words which I have known since I was a schoolboy. "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." These words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie -- as a wisdom, and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged.

Jean-Luc is a character in the Star Trek universe.

So, another semester at MJC ends, and thank god for that. Now I can take a proper break from obscene amount of cramming that comes with finals. I know I did well in Anthropology 101 (both lecture and lab) and Geography 101, but those classes are largely forgetful. However, I'm particularly pleased with my progress and level of achievement in my Figure Drawing class. I can honestly say I learned a lot from this class. I also know that I will look back on previous drawings from years back and cringe in disgust from my hideous body proportions. But such is the hallmark of artistic improvement.

But-yeah...so what shall I do with my summer break?

Well, I have to study up for my math assessment test, so I can get my math prerequisite out of the way x.x but that won't take up too much time.

I need to throw myself into my Japanese studies this time around, actually come up with a schedule or something.

ALSO, guitar. Serious skill-grinding must be done. Try and play in a different key everyday, memorizing the scales.

At some point during the summer I should be heading down to Berkley to check out the UC there, but...really, if I'm being honest with myself, mostly I just want to pillage Amoeba and Rasputin's. I will come back with a Block-o-Music, and life will be fucking sweet. And I'm sure the campus will be nice too. From what I hear.

I also need to make time for the gym. A good idea.

...

I'm out of ideas, so I'll leave you with this:

I have come to realize that, on certain days, I am little more than a continuous stream of symptoms. I'm hoping today isn't one of those days.

My neck is oddly sore. Probably just slept at a weird angle...which is odd, since I just came out of one of my best nights of rest in a long while.

One one hand, I love Borders because I'm always finding different kinds of interesting media, be it books or DVDs or music. I can find that book I've been wanting to own since I couldn't finish it on loan from the library, a new manga that seemed interesting, the movie I saw three months ago that I loved, or an album that someone recommended to me in art class.

However, this results in me NEVER being able to leave that store with just one item.

For the longest time I've had this...I'd call it and obsession...with Heaven and Hell. The afterlife in general, with a particular interest in Hell.

This may have started when I was just a kid, back when my family used to go to church. For some perverse reason I've never been able to pinpoint, The one book of the Bible I was actually interested in reading or hearing about was Revelations. It had to be all the graphic and grandiose imagery. How can you not find seven-headed beasts and seas of blood cool when you're seven or eight? You're naive, all you think is "Wow, that's weird!", with no knowledge of it's meaning or implications. You just take it at face value.

Of course, since my dawn of reasoning, I sometimes regret ever having peeked at that particular book. Had I known I'd be prone to anxiety and paranoia later in life, I would have steered clear of all that. But ever since then, I've been enamored with the horrid beauty of Hell and, at times, the wide majesty of Heaven. Both as ideas, mind you. When I consider the infinite nature of the universe, I find it hard to believe such specific places exists (though I sometimes succumb to fits of doubt). That's not to say I don't believe in God, or a God of some sort. But that's a whole other monologue.

I've just always found the afterlife to be so surreal and full of creative potential. That's why when ever I'm inclined to write something creative, it seems to have some tie to life, death, or the afterlife. I don't really consider this a bad thing, just one of those interesting things you notice about yourself. If I truly believed in astrology, I would just pass it off as my Scorpio nature, but astrology is really just more of a diversion really. Like a game.

Getting off tangent again.

Actually...I think that's all I have to say for now.

Well then, I'll conclude by saying that this sake I'm drinking right now is delicious. I've taken quite a liking to it. It's Nigori Genshu, Murai Family, in case you're interested.

Does anyone reading this know any good relaxing bands/songs? I'm working on a new hookah mix, and my well of calm bands/songs is starting to run dry. I like stuff with mellow, expressive guitar (not really insane shredding, since that gets old after a while), but I'm open to new stuff.

Any suggestions?

Ever since my 18th birthday, hookah sessions have been a ritual for my friends and me. It's our little totally-hetero bonding experience wherein we smoke, drink tea, make stupid jokes and talk shit, occasionally pondering our futures. Mostly stupid jokes and shit-talking. ANYWAY, over the years two distinct roles have evolved in our group. There's the guy who sets and prepares the hookah and coals, the "smoke guy", ensuring quality smoke and flavor. My friend Robert has this down to a science. Then there's my role, the "music guy". Back in my 18th year, when we started smoking hookah at our houses instead of the now (mercifully) abandoned Fez Cafe, I made a little mix CD full of what I though was good smoking music. Essentially, it was mellow and familiar. Well, everyone seemed to dig it, and I just kept making more. So...I'm making the 15th mix right now (technically 14th, since mix 10 was a 2-disk compilation of the best tracks from mixes 1-9), and I'm just kind of...I'm not gonna say amazed. Maybe amused. I don't know. It's just weird some how.

And these mixes aren't just thrown together. Well, not the ones after mix...4 or so. After a while, I developed certain rules for these mixes:
1. One song per artist per CD
2. A song cannot be used more than once. (Exceptional covers and remixes are an exception to this rule)
3. The same artist cannot be present on two consecutive mixes.
4. CD length must exceed 1 hour

It's also a general practice to balance positive and melancholy songs, leading to a balanced mix. Try not to milk one album out of a band's discography (This is often hard to do). Try to include a new band or two on each mix (Keeps me searching). Try to keep the lyrics in English for the sake of others (I bent this rule once for a Gackt song. I regret nothing).

But-yeah, that's what I do a lot of the times I'm online. Just thought I'd talk about that since I haven't posted anything in over two months. G'night, people.

[A question to you all: How long do you spend selecting your LJ mood for entries? I usually take 20-30 seconds. I labor under the idea that your mood helps people determine how to receive your entry. I'm curious about your habits.]

Okay, now g'night.

So, I think I've found my pattern when it comes to Figure Drawing class.

It starts like...

"Ah...okay, here we go. I'm gonna stay cool, do what Serros says, and just chill. Relax, go with the flow. Oh, QotSA...heh."

To...

"Huh...okay, that's not too bad. I can do that. Seems simple enough."

Which promptly becomes...

"What...wat?" (Yes, "wat")

And inevitably leads to...

"OH, WHAT THE FUCKING FU-- HOW!? WHY!? TEN SECONDS!?"

Then devolves to...

*flailflailflail* o.o;;;

And dissipates into...

"Abandon all hope ye who grasp this Tombow pen..."

Finally culminating with...

"Oh...yes. Freeeeeee......." *floats drearily out the doorway*

Every Monday and Wednesday. Gah.

Also, I've been playing the ever-loving shit out of Rock Band 2. I never thought I'd miss the grueling solo parts in "Green Grass and High Tides"...but I do. Oh, I do. Anything besides "Painkiller" or "Panic Attack". Good God.

Okay, speech-time is now. (...in half an hour.)

Hi. Not dead, just lazy.

So, last night I had this fucked up dream. It was like some kind of feature-length movie too.

Okay, so it starts with this sort of craft landing in a grassy field on the outskirts of some city. Out of the craft steps a family: A father, a young daughter, and older daughter, and a young son (I will refer to these people as Frank, Alice, Melissa, and Ethan, respectively, for simplicity's sake). Everyone is wearing space helmets, which they remove after a while. It's then revealed through "ever-present-dream-knowledge" That the place they've landed is actually Mars. The planet has been modified and colonized (so much to the point where it is no longer a "Red Planet") and is now a living area of the upper class of the human race, while everyone else is stuck on what is assumed to be a rather shitty Earth.

Alice, being the young and naive girl she is, starts running around in the open field, just happy to be in clean, open air. While his sister runs about, Ethan notices a billowing smudge of red in the distance. Frank point out the the smudge is actually a Kyte, a native Martian creature. Just then, a yellow Kyte glides past the family. Frank grabs the Kyte gently and shows it to his son. The Kyte is an interesting creature. It has no eyes, no mouth, and no real limbs to speak of. Their bodies are shaped like manta ray's, but more diamond-like. They have bodies as thin as a sheet of fabric, and are usually either red or yellow. Frank explains to Ethan that the Kytes are harmless creatures, nothing to be frightened of. Melissa thinks otherwise and tells the two about rumors she has heard about the Kytes. It has been said the Kytes are actually quite dangerous, with the ability to become invisible via some sort of light refraction, and are able to become razor-sharp along their edges. Frank disregards the rumors as just that and lets the Kyte go. He then motions for Alice to come back. The family heads off towards the city, passing by a man looking at the sky. Frank turns and waves hello, and the man waves back. Suddenly, there is a blur of movement in front of the man's face. His expression slackens and a thin, red line draws across his neck. He bleeds out profusely before his head tumbles to the ground.

Astonished and frightened, the family begins to run. Frank hotwires the nearest car, and the family drives off through a maze of housing complexes and alley ways. Ethan stares out the back window of the car and sees a red Kyte pursuing them, effortlessly weaving between criss-crossing the support cables and powerlines that form a vaulted lattice roof over the alleyways. The family eventually manages to ellude the red Kyte and finds their way to an old abandoned house. They rush inside, and Frank looks for anything with which to arm himself and his family. In the attic, he finds an old katana in decent condition. Just then, a yellow Kyte slices through the attic door and heads straight for Melissa. She manages to evade it, but loses two fingers in the process. Frank lunges forward, grabs the Kyte, and crushes it against a wall. The Kyte goes limp and falls over his hand like cloth. The family decides the attic isn't safe, and they move down to a room on the first floor.

As they head downstairs, Ethan tends to Melissa. They all arrive in a large workship on the first floor. Inside they meet a man (Jason) who is also running from the Kytes. Jason notices Frank folding the dead, bunched-up Kyte in his hand and suggests he cut the creature open, to see how these creatures live. Frank agrees and slices the Kyte open with the katana. What comes out of the Kyte is a fine dust, leading to no clues. Hopelessness fills the room. The sound of rushing air is heard from outside. Jason runs over and closes the door,  but no one really takes any notice. The family has gathered together in a corner of the room, holding eachother close. Jason, in a feeble attempt to aleviate the mood, suggests that they all could play a game. Frank somberly looks up and says, "It would hardly matter." After a moment of silence, Jason too resigns and goes to sit next to the family. A soft and mournful guitar can be heard as the "camera" pans over to the door, which slowly opens just slightly, revealing a bit of blur.

And then I woke up. Disturbing

Well, bloody fucking fuck.

So, after finally finishing a piece worthy of being uploaded to the interwebs, I decide to reinstall my scanner (Since the big harddrive change). Annoyingly, my scanner's software bundles it's driver with this Paperport program. This wouldn't be so annoying if I didn't already have a later version of Paperport already installed, thus preventing me from installing the older Paperport which contains my driver. Naturally, I'm irked.

"Well, fuck that noise. I'll just download the driver separately from the site!" And I did. And, of course, it didn't work. Paperport and Photoshop both stall upon being opened, and I get one of those "______ has encountered and error and must shut down" messages, from some Generic Host something-or-other. Fan-TASTIC! However, these annoyances only occur when when my scanner is plugged in. Yeah.

After throwing my hands up and claiming defeat for a day, I go back and do what I should have done in the first place. I uninstall the new Paperport, uninstall my scanner, and start over. This time I get to install everything from the disk, and a feeling of relief and unearned smugness washes over me. All too soon. It's all the same thing: Paperport, Photoshop, error message, and lack of all three via unplugging the scanner.

Once again, I'm at a loss. I'm not that much of a tech guy...this shit is over my head. I'm not entirely without hope though, since there is another scanner in this house that I'm hooked up to...I'm just not sure how to use it. It's a scanner/printer/fax package deal. Also, I still have my tablet, although I haven't installed that yet either, and I'm not well-accustomed to it. Eh, no better time to learn than now, huh? And there's always the scanner at the library. I could just save up my work, then just scan them all one day over there. Well, at least I still have a few options.

Still, technology's just a cold bitch sometimes

So-yeah, still alive. It's just been a rather uneventful summer vacation. I swear, man, I'm going mad with boredom. The 360 can only entertain me for so long...and I run out of stuff to play on guitar after about an hour. After that, everything I come up with sounds like everything else. That's when I move on to scales. That usually lasts about half an hour, then I just lose passion altogether for a couple hours. I've never been known for an enduring spirit.

I found out the other day that, apparently, High Fidelity was a book before it was a movie. Not terribly surprising, but still... I found it when I was sorting a cart at work, so I just stashed it away and checked it out. It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, so I figured I'd give the book a try. So far, pretty good. I'm drawing a lot of similarities between Rob and myself that I probably shouldn't, but that's one of the things that keeps me reading. I think I'll watch the movie when I'm done, for the hell of it.

I love my new icon.

'Kay, bye.
